Making wellbeing fun!
What is Headssup?
Hi I’m Jane, this is me with my niece Embee and our Headssup mascot Emi
Headssup is a successful wellbeing, resilience and transition project for 3-11 year olds
Our projects have been commissioned by the NHS in Lancashire and are evidenced based working with Lancaster University and a local school Trust of 10 schools
Our projects support children from Pre-school to Year 7 either via school or at home
But what do they do? Take a look and see if you want to get involved…
Firstly, lets be honest, our children do not know how to identify, understand and communicate emotions. So, we start with emotions.
Headssup has two s’s for a reason as it’s an acronym for all of our primary emotions.
Do you know what they are? Exactly. I didn’t either, which is why I started Headssup in 2019.
Click on the ‘About’ tab for more background info.
Learning about our emotions is at the core of Headssup, but we don’t stop there!
We can’t stop there because, there are other things we can do each day as children (and adults), that impact our emotions every day.
So this fun, evidenced based project will help children see this, and take a more proactive approach to their wellbeing - all done via beanie, audio, story booklet and activity booklet
And as our research has a special focuses on the transition years from nursery to reception and from year 6 to year 7, we have a special project just for those age groups too
So if you’re a parent or a pre-school wanting to help children get ‘school ready’, we have an Emi, a short story booklet and colour in sheets just for that
Pre-schoolers - aligned with the 2025 government backed website ‘starting reception’

How it works
This is Emi, our 4" beanie mascot.
Emi is short for emotional intelligence - which is at the heart of the Headssup message
Headssup has found a way to help all ages start and develop their emotional intelligence
Emi is colour coded to represent all of our primary emotions, those emotions researchers say we are ALL born with.
For EYFS
Each child will receive a Headssup Linen Bag filled with:
Their very own Emi Beanie (suitable for ages 0+)
An Emi colouring page to create a classroom wall of friendly faces
6 x A5 or A4 booklets (one per half term) containing a story, an activity, and the themed and PHSE aligned wellbeing message for children, teachers, and families to enjoy together
Working alongside EYFS teams, Emi will gently guide children in looking after their:
Emotional Health
Physical Health
Social Health
Relational Health
Emi can be used to encourage early years children to follow Emi and be ‘reception ready’ aswell as follow Emi’s wellbeing tips - this can help start conversations about emotional health, physical health, social health and friendship health in a fun and relaxed way.
Headssup can be used as part of PSED.
For Key Stages 1 & 2
Each Key stage project stands alone but can also be linked through whole school.
If opting for a whole school project, each pupil will receive a key stage appropriate follow on booklet to work through each year, track progress and provide evidence. Each booklet has 6 sections, one for each half term. The booklet builds on the same messages as in EYFS but gradually increases in content in key stage appropriate ways - helping to create a whole school wellbeing language.
Headssup can be used as part of PHSE.
For Year 6-7 Transition
Each pupil will receive a Year 6 - 7 Transition booklet, helping them to identify and prepare for those necessary Secondary School adjustments.
Year 7 surveys can be carried out by us during the first few weeks of the school year. They are paper based, take 10 minutes and are based on 20 questions that our participants, across 80 primary school have told us are important to them during transition. Results are fed back to school within 48 hours so support can be provided and monitored. A further survey is carried out at a time to suit school to spotlight any areas of concern or show progress - these surveys can really help avoid EBSA.
Headssup is a face to face delivered project that can reach early years, primary and secondary settings across Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, Lancashire and surrounding areas.
All of the Headssup products can also be purchased and easily delivered by schools anywhere in the UK
