What is emotional well-being?
Emotional well-being is an important aspect of school performance, as it affects students’ motivation, engagement, learning, and well-being. Poor emotional health can lead to academic difficulties, such as low grades or dropping out all together.
On the other hand, positive emotional health can enhance students’ resilience, creativity and self-esteem. There are many factors that can influence the emotional health of students, such as family, adverse childhood experiences (ACES), friendships, curriculum, environment, and policies.
Schools can promote and support the emotional health of their students by adopting a whole-school approach.
